Backend Engineer, Python / Go

The Backend Engineer will work on Wolt's Payments Product Team, creating user-centric payment solutions that shape how customers interact with the platform. The role focuses on developing and maintaining scalable, production-level backend microservices primarily using Python and increasingly Go. The engineer will design database schemas, optimize SQL queries, work with asynchronous event processing, containerization, orchestration, and cloud deployment technologies, contributing to the future of payments at Wolt.
Main requirements:
  • Develop and maintain scalable backend services in Python and Go.
  • Design and optimize database schemas and SQL queries (PostgreSQL).
  • Work with asynchronous event processing platforms like Kafka.
  • Use containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) technologies.
  • Deploy and scale applications on cloud platforms such as AWS.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain scalable backend applications primarily in Python and Go.
  • Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and indexes using SQL databases like PostgreSQL.
  • Work with asynchronous event processing systems (Kafka or others).
  • Handle containerization with Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
  • Deploy and scale applications using AWS cloud platform.
  • Participate in code reviews, mentoring, and onboarding processes.
Required hard skills:
