CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, seeks an enthusiastic and experienced DevOps Engineer proficient with Kubernetes and Cloud Native technologies. The role involves designing and implementing next-generation cloud applications and platforms for CERN's community, managing critical hosting platforms and applications, and supporting development teams.
Main requirements:
  • Proven experience operating production Kubernetes environments supporting thousands of users.
  • Extensive experience with Docker/Podman and container orchestration engines focused on Java.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting in Linux and web components including load balancers, Ingress controllers such as HAProxy and Apache HTTPD.
  • Experience with configuration management systems like Puppet.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python and Bash.
  • Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field.
  • Fluent spoken and written English and commitment to learn French.
Responsibilities:
  • Operate and monitor applications deployed to Kubernetes and virtual machines, troubleshoot production environments.
  • Plan and perform upgrades, monitor resource usage, and collaborate with development teams.
  • Maintain and develop Cloud Native technologies (e.g., ArgoCD, ArgoWF, Fluentbit, HAproxy).
  • Maintain Apache Tomcat, Java, and system Docker images; address security alerts; maintain CI/CD workflows.
  • Provide advice, support, mentorship, and training to developer communities.
  • Manage disaster recovery systems based on Restic and S3.
  • Manage Linux systems using Puppet configuration management.
Required hard skills:
  • Kubernetes cluster management and operation.
  • Docker/Podman container technology.
  • Linux system administration and troubleshooting.
  • Configuration management with Puppet.
  • Python and Bash scripting.
  • Knowledge of web technologies including load balancers and proxies (HAProxy, Apache HTTPD).
