The position involves establishing the Competence Center for Data Interoperability (KDI) at the University of Gothenburg and within the MEDem network, focusing on developing frameworks, protocols, software, and guidelines to enable advanced data integration and linking methods in comparative democracy research.
Main requirements:
- Establish and develop KDI at the University of Gothenburg and within the MEDem network.
- Develop conceptual frameworks and methodological papers clarifying data linkage in democracy research.
- Create linkage protocols and interoperability standards for data integration.
- Develop software packages in R, Python, and STATA supporting deterministic and probabilistic linking techniques.
- Develop Statistical Linkage Keys for secure data integration when identifiers are missing or uncertain.
- Design educational materials and technical documentation to support researchers.
- Map existing data sources and research networks to identify interoperability projects.
- Manage and process social science data, including survey, geodata, time series, and text data using R/STATA/Python.
- Develop methodological routines for deterministic, probabilistic, and statistical data linking.
- Work with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including creation, modification, and queries.
- Document all processes with LaTeX and Markdown.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to KDI and MEDem central deliverables for advanced data integration.
- Support MEDem's ESFRI application to secure its long-term role in European research infrastructure.
- Collaborate closely with the national research infrastructure DEMSCORE at the University of Gothenburg.
- In later phases, develop guidelines and best practices for cooperation with other service centers.
- Develop training materials and software to facilitate data linking.
- Co-author methodological scientific publications.
Required hard skills:
- Advanced data management and processing using R, Python, and STATA.
- Expertise with relational databases, specifically PostgreSQL.
- Developing and documenting technical processes using LaTeX and Markdown.
- Knowledge of deterministic, probabilistic, and statistical data linkage methodologies.
- Software development for data linking and interoperability.
Recommended hard skills:
- Experience with survey data, geodata, time series, and text data processing.
- Familiarity with the European research infrastructure MEDem and its goals.
