Protection Systems Engineer / Relay Protection Engineer

An expert-level engineer role based in Sundsvall, Sweden, focusing on protection systems and disturbance data acquisition and analysis for electrical power networks. The position allows for 50% remote work and includes tasks such as disturbance and fault disconnection analysis, preparing technical descriptions, reviewing project documentation, ensuring compliance with technical guidelines, participating in acceptance tests, attending technical meetings, coordinating resources, and calculating relay protection parameters using Svenska kraftnät’s tools.
Main requirements:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Power Engineering, Energy Systems, or Electrical Engineering
- Valid ESA Safety Training – Skilled level
- At least 10 years of experience in calculating and setting relay protection for meshed transmission networks ≥130 kV
- At least 10 years of experience supporting protection/control systems in transformer station projects (130–400 kV)
- At least 10 years of experience in disturbance analysis for directly grounded networks (130–400 kV)
- Experience with multiple generations of protection relays (numerical, static, electromechanical)
- 10 years of experience using CAPE and PSS/E calculation software
- Proficient in Swedish and English, both spoken and written
Responsibilities:
- Perform disturbance and fault disconnection analyses
- Prepare technical descriptions for protection systems in projects
- Review studies, protection reports, and design documentation
- Ensure compliance with Technical Descriptions (TB) and Technical Guidelines (TR)
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and occasionally Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
- Attend technical meetings
- Coordinate additional resources within the unit
- Calculate and set relay protection parameters using Svenska kraftnät’s tools
