System Engineers for Telecom (L1 and L2)
Workplace: Kista, Sverige
Expires: September 30, 2025
Seeking system-focused engineers to engage in early-phase studies and simulation work for 5G NR feature evolution. The role involves system design, feature development, and verification with emphasis on simulation-driven analysis aligned with 3GPP architecture, supporting Layer 1 (PHY) and Layer 2 (MAC/RLC/PDCP).

  • Solid understanding of 5G NR protocol stack based on 3GPP
  • Familiarity with simulation environments and analytical tools
  • Ability to work independently, document, and communicate effectively
  • Willingness and ability to learn Ericsson-specific platforms
Responsibilities:
  • Lead and support technical studies in feature pre-development
  • Execute simulation-based evaluations (link-level, scheduler behaviour, accelerator feasibility)
  • Provide architectural input and early design feedback
  • Align work with 3GPP standards and Ericsson internal architectures (e.g., MSRBS, GPP)
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with system, software, and verification teams
Required hard skills:
  • Deep understanding of MAC scheduling and multiplexing (for L2 candidates)
  • Logical-to-transport channel mapping
  • Buffer Status Reports (BSR) and Scheduling Requests (SR)
  • RLC modes: TM, UM, AM
  • Knowledge of User Plane Control (UPC) and Radio Resource Management (RRM)
  • Link-level simulations (e.g., Falcon) for L1 candidates
  • 5G PHY protocol stack including UL/DL procedures, HARQ, beamforming
  • Waveforms and signal design (OFDM, SC-FDMA)
  • Channel coding (LDPC, Polar)
  • Synchronization signals (PSS/SSS, DMRS, CSI-RS)
  • Slot/frame structure understanding (3GPP TS 38.211/213)
Recommended hard skills:
  • PDCP knowledge including ciphering and header compression (L2)
  • Experience with simulation or log analysis tools
  • Python, Matlab, or C++ scripting for automation or modeling
  • Experience integrating simulations with HW testbeds (L1)
  • Understanding of FAPI/nFAPI or O-RAN PHY interface specifications
Soft skills:
  • Ability to work independently
  • Effective documentation and communication skills
  • Willingness to learn new platforms and technologies
