A Network Engineer position at CERN responsible for operating and developing high-performance network infrastructures supporting scientific research, including debugging, designing, and maintaining campus and data center networks, including wireless systems.
Main requirements:
  • Operate and develop CERN's network infrastructures
  • Debug and troubleshoot complex networking problems
  • Design suitable connectivity solutions and oversee implementation
  • Follow up technical issues and feature requests with vendors
  • Provide expert advice and propose developments for scalable network operation
Responsibilities:
  • Participate in network infrastructure operation and development
  • Provide expert debugging and troubleshooting support
  • Implement or propose improvements for network operation
  • Interpret user needs and design connectivity solutions
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors to address technical issues
Required hard skills:
  • Networking debugging and troubleshooting from physical layer to routing protocols
  • Experience with SNMP and network monitoring protocols
  • Designing and operating campus and data center networks at scale
  • Network administration and operation
  • Knowledge of communication technologies and protocols
  • Network design
Recommended hard skills:
  • Experience troubleshooting Wi-Fi radio-frequency issues
  • Experience with network monitoring systems like Nagios or Spectrum
  • Experience in wireless network design and operation
